A special feature (or disadvantage) of both of these browsers (Chrome and Edge) is that they do not have their own network settings. Both browsers use Windows system settings. Thus, when you set a proxy server in one of the browsers, you automatically change the settings for the second browser as well.

You can solve this problem in different ways. We will list three of them.

The first method. Use another browser instead of Chrome or Edge, such as Mozilla Firefox. This browser has its own network settings, separate from the network settings of the Windows operating system. If you install one proxy server in Firefox, you can easily install another proxy in Chrome or Edge. So you can use two different proxies in different browsers.
The second method. Download and install the Foxyproxy Addon for Chrome. Foxyproxy will allow you to set up a separate proxy server for Chrome. At the same time you will be able to use another proxy server in Edge browser.
- The third, most advanced method. Use a stand-alone proxy program, such as Proxifier. With Proxifier, you can configure each individual browser to work with its own specific proxy server by simply setting up separate rules for each browser.

Disabling Proxies in Edge
To completely disable proxies in Edge, you need to move the slider opposite the "Use a proxy server" inscription to the "Off" position.

There are some significant differences between IPv4 and IPv6 proxies. In this article, we will present the most important points and discuss whether it is worthwhile buying IPv6 proxies.
IPv4 and IPv6: The most important facts at a glance
IPv4 is the fourth version of the so-called Internet Protocol. The protocol forms an important technical basis of the World Wide Web. A maximum of 4,294,967,296 addresses can be assigned in a network. This standard was established as early as 1981.

IPv6 addresses (available since 1998) are network addresses that uniquely address a host within an IPv6 network. Unlike other addresses, an IPv6 host has several IPv6 addresses per interface. The addresses have different validity ranges, for example, local link and global. With IPv6, 3.4 x 10 to the power of 38 addresses can be assigned.

IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses and is 4 bytes (32 bits) in size. The 32 bits are divided into 8 bit (1 byte) blocks for better readability. A dot is inserted between the individual blocks. An example: The binary IPv4 address 01111111.0000000.00000000.00000001 gives the IPv4 address 127.0.0.1.

An IPv6 address, on the other hand, consists of 128 bits, which are divided into 8 x 16 bits because of their long length. Each 4 bits are represented as a hexadecimal number. A group of numbers is made up of 4 hexadecimal numbers. A colon is inserted between the groups. For the sake of simplicity, leading zeros in the blocks are left out. Thus a sequence of 8 zeros can be replaced by two colons. An example of an IPv6 address is:

IPv6: Low trust for large Internet services
The IPv4 standard is currently supported by all websites and Internet services. But the situation is different with IPv6: This standard is much less trusted, especially by the major service providers (e.g. Google, Facebook, and Instagram).

Nevertheless, IPv6 is still supported. According to Google, the share of users accessing the world's largest search engine with IPv6 is 29.62% - and rising. It is remarkable that the share of users with IPv6 has almost doubled since January 2017. IPv6 is most widespread in Western and Central Europe, North America, and Brazil as well as in India and Japan.
Is buying IPv6 proxies worthwhile?

In 2018, we conducted an experiment focusing on the applicability of IPv6 proxies. The goal was to evaluate the use of IPv6 in parsing Google result pages (SERPs). The following subnets were used:

- One IPv4 / 24 subnet (256 IP addresses)
- One IPv6 / 64 subnet (total number of IP addresses 18446744073709551616)

Requests were sent to the Google search engine from the available IP addresses. The result was astonishing: Both subnets used were simultaneously banned by Google. Captcha queries were displayed before the "ban". A little later a permanent ban was imposed. This was applied to all IP addresses contained in the subnet.

 

The result of the experiment may surprise many IT experts - after all, the IPv6 network contains a much larger number of IP addresses. Experiments conducted on social networks produced similar results: The use of an IPv6 proxy for the purpose of "mass following" (meaning the mass collection of social contacts) leads to an immediate ban on the IP addresses used. IPv6 is apparently seen as a sign of spam by these services.
Conclusion
Currently, it is not worthwhile to use an IPv6 proxy. However, it is quite possible that this will change in the long run. However, industry experts are relatively certain that the situation will not change at least in the coming months and years.

Disadvantages of using shared proxies

- Bandwidth is shared between users, resulting in slower transmission as compared to private proxies
- Higher probability of running into a captcha
- Shared proxy IPs are generally more likely to be blocked at the target website than private proxies.
- Greater susceptibility to errors and security problems due to the neighbor effect.
- -Number of concurrent connections is lower as compared to private proxies. The proxy provider can adjust this number according to the current situation. In case of complaints from owners of third-party services, the number of concurrent connections allowed can be reduced to zero.
For example: a complaint comes from the owner of a website to the proxy provider about hacking attempts from IP addresses belonging to this provider. In this case, the proxy provider will either drastically reduce the number of concurrent connections or completely block access to this website through their shared proxy IPs.

The following proxy types have a multi-user proxy sharing model:

- Free or Public proxies

All free or public proxies are shared (shared proxies), so much so that the actual number of users is in the thousands. The same proxies are published on different resources. Sometimes the same proxy server can appear several times in the same list. That is, the same IP, but simultaneously reachable on different ports, for example x.x.x.x.x:3128 and x.x.x.x.x.x:1081. This means that a user of Zennoposter, Scrapebox, or GSA alone creates a double load for this proxy. And there can be hundreds or even thousands of such users. Because of this excessive load, these servers become overloaded by incoming traffic and go offline.

- Data center hosted proxies

Generally, proxy providers tend to specify a certain number of users, e.g. 3 or 5, but we do not recommend that users use this number as a criterion for selecting a particular provider. This is simply because the provider can write down any number, even 2, but the user cannot verify this number. Therefore we recommend the following procedure:

Ask different providers for a test of a proxy package and check the bandwidth of the channel, for example on YouTube or torrent. Providers usually allow you to test shared proxies for a few hours up to a day without any problems. It is also recommended to test the performance of resources on which the proxy will be used. This type of proxy should be discarded immediately, if the user intends to access Google services. In such cases, shared mobile proxies are more appropriate.

- Residential Proxys

All residential proxies are shared de facto, except in individual cases where the proxy provider explicitly states on the website that they have a separate, private proxy pool. The number of IPs in the pool, which the provider states on their website (e.g. 20 million IPs) are equal to the total number of IPs they actually have in a month. Every day the pool is updated by about 20-30%. This means that ideally, this residential proxy provider has 800,000 to 1 million IPs per day. If the customer only needs German IPs, then this means 50-100 thousand IPs at best. And all these IPs are used simultaneously by several hundred or even thousand users of this proxy service. Therefore, the probability that proxies will not work on a target website is quite high. The actual numbers depend on the current situation on a given day, as well as on the specific provider, how many users they have, and which country the customer is interested in.
